A Post About You
Yes, you. This post is about you.
I have something to say to you, something I’m sure you’ve heard before. Maybe you’ve heard it many times. Maybe never. Either way, this is important. Please, read the next few paragraphs carefully because they’re directed at you.
If you’re still reading this, you’re still breathing. The air of life is flowing in and out of your lungs. You, you are alive. You are here, with me and everyone else. We’re all alive, and we’re alive here. You are the only you that we have. You are a part of one of the most sacred things ever, and we call it life.
In fact, that breath that you have been breathing, that is the very breath of God. The very fact that you breathe, and have been breathing means God is granting you life. And you are significant. You are made in the image of God, the Scriptures say. Somehow, you are a reflection of pure beauty, truth, and goodness. You don’t just exist. No, you are not a waste of space or some cosmic accident. You were fearfully and wonderfully made. You are awesome.
Maybe you feel like you haven’t done anything awesome. But that’s the thing, you don’t have to do something awesome. You are awesome because God has made you. He knit you together in the womb, and He cherishes His work.
You Are Loved
Yes. It’s true. I know sometimes people make you feel insignificant. I know sometimes that people who claim to speak for God may make you feel hated by Him. You might feel alienated, or like somehow you slipped through sorting process and snuck into this world, and that God grimaces at the sight of you.
But, that’s just not true. I don’t care who you are. Black, white, asian, male, female, or other. You could be gay, straight, bisexual, or attracted to a particularly enticing lampshade, and you couldn’t change the number of loving thoughts God has towards you. He loves you. (And if it’s worth anything, I do too.)
You Aren’t Perfect.
Yes, I know it, you know it. In fact, you probably know it better than anyone. We all have our crap. We all do some messed up stuff. We all have those face-palm moments where we ask ourselves “how could I have been that stupid?”.
Trust me. I’m really messed up too.
We might be self-centered.
Insensitive to others.
And the list goes on for all of us.
Yes, you and I are both imperfect.
But You Don’t Have To Be Perfect
No, you don’t! I know, sometimes you and I try so hard to be good enough. We try so hard to fix all that junk underneath the hood.
But it’s a big pile of junk. I don’t think I could ever get to the bottom of mine if I’m being honest.
Luckily, we’re not expected to be, or become perfect. At least not on our own. God knows the struggle. He lived in the struggle for a while.
Jesus (and I know by just typing that name, all sorts of ideas pop into your head) isn’t some unapproachable Mr. Perfect who points fingers and laughs. No, He has compassion on the broken. He lends a hand to the weak, and the down-trodden. He offers rest to the weary.
Jesus can sympathize with you, and He’s seen your brokenness. He took on that brokenness. He wants to take it from you.
You see, all that junk under the hood, all those bad habits, vices, inconsistencies, immoral tendencies, bad thoughts, bad deeds, or sins as they’re sometimes called are symptoms of a deeper issue.
And I think you and I know about that issue, even if you don’t know it by name, or haven’t explicitly thought it, we know about it.
There’s something missing.
Right? Don’t we all feel that? That emptiness? Dissatisfaction. It always creeps back. It’s like there will never be something that could be enough. It’s like something really big is off-centered in our life, or reality, or society.
Patching Up Holes.
But Jesus wants to take that. The fullness of who God is wants to take that space in you. He wants to know you. He already knows everything about you. And you might know a bit about Him. But He wants to know you. This is more like that deep friendship or relationship where you just know somebody.
You feel it when they walk in the room. You can sense their emotions, and when something is wrong. You know stuff about them, but you also know them. That’s what God wants with you.
And I have wonderful news. That begins now. Wherever you’re at. Wherever someone has said you have to be, or whatever you have to change to get there first is crap. It starts now. You might not look the same in a week, or a month, or a year. You will discover some things about yourself you don’t like. But God is willing to work through all of that. And there’s plenty of others who know Him who are willing to as well.
Maybe you already know who God is. Maybe you’ve been wondering what He’s like. Or maybe you’ve never even thought about it, but you know you need something like that. I encourage you to seek Him out, genuinely. Give Him a shot. Take a leap of faith and trust Him. Believe me, there’s nothing worth more than this. With Him, everything makes sense. Everything is more significant. And with Him the best of it all is yet to come.
