The ARK Movement, A Call to Action
There’s something that’s true about all of us, regardless of circumstances. There’s something that everyone should know about themselves. Something that defines each of us, even if we don’t acknowledge it.
You are loved.
Yes, you. And you. And your friends. And your enemies. People across the world. The aborigines in undeveloped parts of the world. Your parents. That guy who cut you off in traffic, yes even him.
Acts of Random Kindness
This is a call to action for you. You know the truth. You are loved. They are loved. I believe the powerful love of God changes us, and impacts the world for the better. His way of doing things makes a lasting difference. I want to be a person who lives like this, and portrays this to the world. I hope you do, as well.
ARK means acts of random kindness, which is basically just doing kind things for anybody you meet for the sake of goodwill and love, not because you’ve hand-selected them. It’s being graceful in a true way, not because you’ve targeted them for some reason, or disqualified someone else. It’s realizing everybody needs to feel kindness and love, and being unbiased about giving it out. This is hard to do. Believe me, I suck at being this way 99% of the time. But I’m trying to break the spell. I’m trying to be a beacon of light in a world which can be monotonous, or dark, or boring. Whatever it is.
A while back I started printing these cards to hand out that said ‘you are loved’. I would give them to anyone and everyone, because it’s true of all people. The goal is to be kind and loving to strangers. To people you’ve never met, and will likely never see again.
Without thanks. Without recognition. Perhaps without even so much as a conversation, or acknowledgement. Many times, I’d try to walk off while they were still grimacing at me, thinking I was trying to shove advertising down their throat. Then, I could catch a glimpse of their smile while I turned the corner, as they actually read the card.
So yes, it’s random. But also, it’s not. Every single person walking on this planet has a life that’s as significant, complex, fascinating, and multi-layered as yours. Everybody has a story. Everybody is human. Everybody is loved. We all forget that, quite a bit, though. My goal in this is break the wall between us, the wall of unfamiliarity. The wall of difference, because really, we’re all the same more than we are different.
Everybody needs to hear how we feel about them, and I believe, how God feels about them. It changes the world.
So here’s a call to join me. Be kind to strangers, for the sake of love, for the sake of virtue, for the sake of God’s kingdom. If you so please, print out some of these cards. I’ve attached the file to this post, so you can download it and have as many as you want printed. No charge on my end. No recognition back to me. No thanks. Just get out there and hand them out. Impact the lives of the people around you.
And don’t forget in the process, you are loved.
To download and print your own ARK Card, download this picture from the link below and have it printed as a business card. I used Vista Print last time, and it was incredibly cheap to print a good amount of these things.
