Just Walk Out the Door
An open letter those bored with summer, like me.
Get out of the house.
Shower. Get dressed. Eat something.
Walk out the door.
Nothing happens at home. The whole world is wide awake and spinning around you.
All the action is outside your closed off, sanctuary of silence and rest.
You’re anxious. You feel like your missing out.
You’re wondering where the excitement is. And why has it passed you by?
Just walk out the door.
Who cares if you don’t have a day planned.
Or a place to go.
Just drive. Pick somewhere to go. Something to do.
And just get out.
Once you walk out the door, the world becomes aware of a new player in the game.
People start talking. You start making new connections.
And you feel alive.
Netflix will be there when you get back. And your bed. And your pets. Your parents. And your computer. And facebook. All of that will always be there, never changing, never actually producing much forward momentum.
But the world as it is today, is only this way once. Tomorrow it’s different. You only see these people in these places at these moments once. So get out of the house, and live a real life. Don’t get caught in the fictitious web of social interaction through pixels and binary code being relayed on a screen.
Walk out the door, and live a real life, even if you feel like you’re on pause for the summer.
Don’t worry, school will start again soon.
But for now, just get out of the house.
And do something with your time.
